Personal Background:
Before training as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I worked as a social worker in Philadelphia, PA with the American Red Cross helping individuals and families re-adjust from the traumatic events of fire and flood. The rapid transformation I witnessed in my clients in response to kindness, encouragement and respect convinced me that with adequate support we all have the potential to thrive. As a therapist, I have sought to familiarize myself with a wide variety of people and concerns, by working with children, adolescents, adults, elders, couples, and families diverse in background, ethnicity and sexual orientation. In addition, having come to the United States as a young boy from Greece, not knowing a word of English and being unfamiliar with the culture, I have a unique understanding of the immigrant experience and a strong appreciation for diversity and multiculturalism. I have trained and worked in a broad array of environments, including community-based and private mental health clinics, substance abuse treatment centers for adolescents and adults, elementary schools, hospital psychiatric facilities, and residential facilities for homeless single adults.
In my personal and professional life, I found that most people have similar common threads that speak to wanting to be happy, to be in a supportive, sexually alive and loving relationship, and the wish to create and succeed in personal and professional goals. Yet what I have witnessed is that many feel disappointed, anxious, hopeless and lonely. In our work together, we create awareness and explore what gets in the way to having the relationships and goals we want, we learn to avoid patterns that no longer serve us and we reflect on the beliefs and values that give us purpose and passion. I offer support in creating insight into your motivations through introspection, and body awareness. I feel passionate about helping individuals create healthy intimacy with themselves and others and I am committed and honored to witness your path of self-discovery.
